The useful standard is not a marketing claim or a clean-looking map. It is whether the system can be assessed in the conditions that matter on your property and whether its alerts remain predictable there.

Treat Setup as Part of Everyday Safety

A GPS fence is only as useful as its setup and day-to-day boundary management. Clear mapping and the ability to adjust the boundary are practical considerations because unclear owner processes can create confusion for the dog.

Do not treat an initial map as permanent proof of performance. Revisit the boundary wherever the environment changes---from open lawn to tree cover, across terrain shifts, or near structures---and focus on whether the warning behavior remains consistent.

If alerts are inconsistent, stop treating the system as ready for training. Unpredictable alerts can confuse a dog and create an unfair experience because the boundary does not appear to behave the same way from one encounter to the next.
