The Meowant SC10 (MW-SC10) is Meowant's open-top self-cleaning litter box. It pairs a 72L open litter area and a 500 mm (about 19.7 in) extended litter bed with an 11.9L enclosed waste bin, so clumps are moved out of the litter after each visit and you deal with one sealed bin instead of a scoop.

This page covers what the MW-SC10 is, its published specifications, which cats and homes it suits, how often you can expect to empty the bin, and how it compares with the enclosed SC09.

What the Meowant SC10 is

The SC10 is a large automatic litter box built around an open top. The litter area is open above instead of sitting inside a closed cabin, the litter bed is lengthened, and a raised rim runs around it to keep kicked litter inside. After your cat leaves, the drum rotates, sifts clumps out of the clean litter and drops them into the enclosed waste drawer underneath.

Meowant positions the SC10 and the Meowant SC09 (MW-SC09) as parallel flagship models for large cats and multi-cat homes. They share the same class of cleaning, odor control and safety. The difference is the design: the SC10 is open and ventilated, while the SC09 is a fully enclosed cabin.

The 72L figure describes the open litter area. It is measured differently from the SC09's 106L enclosed cabin, so the two numbers should not be read as one box being bigger than the other. The SC09 has the larger enclosed volume; the SC10 is the longer machine with an open top.

Who the open-top design suits

The SC10's layout makes the most sense in a few situations:

  • Energetic diggers. The raised rim keeps most kicked litter inside the box, which cuts down on sweeping around it.
  • Large cats that stand tall. With an open top instead of a closed roof, a long-bodied cat has more room to stand, stretch and turn. The extended bed gives room to move before settling.
  • Cats that avoid covered boxes. Some cats hesitate at a hood or a door. An open box lets them see around them while they use it.
  • Owners who like to see the litter. You can check the litter level, clump spread and your cat's posture at a glance, without opening a cover.
  • Utility spaces. A balcony, laundry room or storage corner suits a box that is chosen for airflow and easy upkeep rather than for hiding it away.

If your cat already uses an open tray happily, the SC10 keeps that familiar shape. If your cat prefers a covered, den-like spot, the enclosed SC09 is usually the easier switch. For more on sizing for big breeds, see our guide to litter boxes for large cats.

What the control panel shows

The SC10 has buttons and status indicators on the side of the unit. According to the MW-SC10 user manual:

  • Clean Waste Litter button. Press once to start a cleaning cycle; press again to pause it.
  • Empty All Litter button. Hold for 3 seconds until you hear a beep to empty the whole litter bed, for example before a deep clean.
  • Waste drawer indicator. Lights solid white when the waste drawer is full.
  • Drum indicator. Shows when the drum is running or counting down to a cycle.
  • Cat indicator. Lights when a cat is detected, so the drum stays still.
  • Error codes. E1 means an infrared sensor is blocked, E2 a side cover is not in place, E3 a motor error and E4 the drum is not in place.

Keep an eye on your cat's visits as well as the machine. A sudden rise in trips, very long visits or repeated trips that produce little are worth noticing. A litter box is not a diagnostic tool, though. Straining, crying in the box or frequent trips with little output can signal a urinary problem, and in male cats a blockage is an emergency, so call your veterinarian rather than waiting to see whether it settles.

How often will you empty the 11.9L bin?

There is no single number of days that applies to every home. The 11.9L enclosed bin is the larger of the two flagship bins (the SC09's is 6.7L), so it holds more clumps between emptying trips. How long that lasts in your home depends on a handful of variables:

  • Number of cats. Every cat sharing the box adds clumps to the same bin. Two or three cats fill it noticeably faster than one.
  • Cat size and diet. Larger cats and cats on wet food tend to produce bigger urine clumps.
  • Clump size and litter depth. A clump carries clean litter with it. Litter that spreads before clumping, or a bed filled deeper than the manual recommends, sends more litter into the bin with each cycle.
  • Stool consistency. Soft stool or a cat that is unwell changes how much material each cycle removes.
  • Warm weather. In heat, odor can build before the bin is physically full. Smell is a good reason to empty it early.

The practical way to find your interval is to watch it. For the first one to two weeks, look at the bin once a day and note when it reaches a comfortable fill level or starts to smell. Repeat that across a couple of cycles and you have a routine that fits your household. Empty it when the waste drawer indicator lights, when it looks nearly full or when you notice odor, whichever comes first.

Capacity is not the only limit. The SC10 manual recommends changing the liner regularly to stop bacteria building up, so plan bag changes around hygiene and smell, not just around how full the drawer looks.

A fitted liner makes emptying quicker. The SC10 Litter Box Liners – Roll Pack is made for the MW-SC10, uses a double drawstring and is rated for loads up to 22 lbs (10 kg). For a general walkthrough of bag changes, see this liner maintenance guide.

Emptying the bin is only one part of upkeep. Litter still needs topping up as clumps are removed, and the whole bed needs a periodic refresh. A short daily inspection while you learn your household's rhythm catches both.

Cleaning and upkeep

The SC10 carries an IPX5 water-resistance rating, and its drum, waste drawer and inner fabric pad come out for rinsing. The base holds the electronics and must only be wiped. The manual's deep-clean sequence is:

  1. Slide out the waste drawer, dispose of the bag, fit a new liner and slide the drawer back. Emptying the drawer first stops litter spilling in the next step.
  2. Hold the Empty All Litter button for 3 seconds and wait for the empty cycle to finish.
  3. Unplug the litter box, slide the waste drawer out again and dispose of the litter.
  4. Pull the tab to remove the inner fabric pad.
  5. Slide the side covers to the ON position to release them, remove the covers on both sides, then lift out the drum.
  6. Wipe the base with a soft, slightly damp cloth or sponge. Never rinse the base or put it in water.
  7. Rinse the drum, waste drawer and fabric pad. Avoid soaps or cleaners with strong scents cats dislike, such as citrus, lavender or peppermint.
  8. Dry every part thoroughly, refit the drum, waste drawer and fabric pad, attach the side covers and slide them to OFF to lock the drum.

This guide to cleaning the SC10 covers the same checks in more detail.

For litter, the manual recommends a highly absorbent, fast-clumping litter kept between the MAX and MIN fill lines. Firm clumps hold together in the drum and leave less residue on the fabric pad. Check the litter types listed in the MW-SC10 user manual before switching brands.

Replacement parts such as the SC10 Deodorizer Box are sold separately on the Smart Litter Box Accessories page. If the cleaning cycle stops partway, the control panel indicators usually point to the cause; see what to do if the MW-SC10 stops turning mid-cycle.

Getting your cat started

Place the SC10 on a firm, level floor with a little space around it, not on carpet or a raised surface. If you use a litter mat, put it in front of the unit rather than under it. Keep your cat's old box nearby for the first days so the switch is a choice rather than a forced change. One common approach is to leave the new box switched off at first, let the cat use it as an ordinary open tray, and turn on automatic cleaning once the cat uses it without hesitation.

Watch the first few cycles while you are at home to confirm that clumps reach the bin and the litter bed levels out. If your cat's toilet habits change suddenly at any point, treat it as a possible health or behavior issue. The ASPCA's guidance on litter box problems is a good starting point, and your veterinarian should rule out medical causes.

SC10 or SC09?

Neither model is the better one. They are two designs on the same flagship level, and the right choice follows your cat and your home.

Feature Meowant SC10 Meowant SC09
Design Open top, extended bed Fully enclosed cabin
Space 72L open litter area, no ceiling 106L enclosed cabin volume

Choose the SC10 if scatter, ventilation and seeing the litter at a glance matter most. Choose the SC09 if your cat relaxes in a covered space or the box will sit in a main living area. The full Meowant SC09 vs SC10 comparison goes through each difference, and if you are also weighing Meowant's low-tray model, see SC03 vs SC10.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Meowant SC10 good for large cats?

Yes. The extended 500 mm bed and open top give long-bodied and tall cats room to turn and stand without a roof overhead. The raised rim also helps with the bigger digging motions that large cats tend to make.

Can several cats share one SC10?

The SC10 is designed for multi-cat homes, and its 11.9L bin suits the extra volume. The usual guideline of one box per cat plus one still applies, because cats compete for access as well as space. See how multiple cats can share a self-cleaning box for setup tips.

How many days can I go without emptying the SC10?

It depends on how many cats use it, their size and diet, and how the litter clumps. Instead of aiming for a fixed number of days, check the bin daily for the first week or two, then set a routine based on what you see. Empty it earlier whenever it smells.

Which liners fit the MW-SC10?

Use the SC10 Litter Box Liners – Roll Pack, which is listed as compatible with the MeoWant MW-SC10. Liners sold for the SC01 and SC02 are a different product.
