When Should Someone Refill My Cat’s Wet Food Feeder During My Trip?
Have your sitter reload used, cleaned bowls before their next scheduled meals, and arrange at least twice-daily care visits. Work out refill timing from your cat’s meal schedule and the portions already loaded—not trip length alone. Cats Protection recommends at least two visits a day during a holiday, with more frequent visits potentially needed for very young or old cats and those with certain health conditions. A care visit does not automatically mean an unused bowl needs refilling.
Match refill visits to the meals already loaded
- List each cat’s normal meals and portions. Write down every feeding time during your absence, including meals on departure and return days.
- Mark which meals the loaded bowls cover. The Meowant Automatic Wet Food Cat Feeder-MW-PF06 has two bowls that can open separately for two meals or together for two cats. Each bowl opens once per day, so using both simultaneously for two cats covers one feeding occasion, not two. Bowl capacity is not a number of days of food.
- Place visits around feeding and cleanup. Arrange for someone to remove leftovers promptly after eating, clean the used bowls and reload them before their next scheduled meals. Daily reuse requires that hands-on care; do not leave served leftovers waiting for a visit many hours later.
The MW-PF06 uses local push-button programming. Before departure, demonstrate the meal schedule, bowl loading and controls to your sitter so they can follow the routine in person.
If the sitter’s availability cannot cover both prompt cleanup and the next reload, change the visit times, arrange longer stays or use a different feeding/care setup. Meowant does not recommend this feeder for trips longer than two days; arrange a different setup for longer travel.
Example: one cat eating two meals a day
Illustrative schedule: Your cat normally eats at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. You initially load the morning portion in one bowl and the evening portion in the other, with each programmed for its respective meal. In this example, the cat finishes within 20 minutes; the sitter stays longer if needed.
| Time | Sitter’s actions |
|---|---|
| 7:45 a.m. | Arrive, check the cat and feeder, and stay for the 8 a.m. meal. |
| After eating, around 8:20 a.m. | Promptly remove leftovers, wash and dry the used bowl and utensils, then load the measured portion for the next day’s 8 a.m. meal. Leave the unused evening portion in place. |
| 5:45 p.m. | Return and stay for the 6 p.m. meal. |
| After eating, around 6:20 p.m. | Promptly remove leftovers, wash and dry the used bowl and utensils, then load the measured portion for the next day’s 6 p.m. meal if you will still be away. |
These times illustrate visit coordination, not a universal safe-storage interval. Adapt the plan to your cat’s eating pattern and the food maker’s handling instructions, including whether they permit the planned storage time. If they do not, arrange loading closer to feeding. Each visit includes time for eating and cleanup rather than leaving leftovers until the next visit.

Give the sitter a clear refill routine
Remove leftovers promptly. Unused or leftover canned and pouched pet food should be promptly refrigerated or discarded. Keep unused food refrigerated at 40°F or below, following the food maker’s handling instructions.
Wash, dry and reload. Wash and dry food bowls and pet-food scooping or measuring utensils after each use. Load fresh, measured portions into the clean bowls according to the written meal plan. The MW-PF06’s removable stainless steel bowls are dishwasher safe. Wipe the electrical base with a soft damp cloth; never wash or immerse it.
Plan for interrupted cooling. If cooling is interrupted, have the sitter check the food and arrange an alternative meal. The feeder’s backup capacitor releases the lids during a power loss, but it does not continue cooling or normal scheduled operation.
Before leaving, hand over meal times, portions, bowl assignments, cleanup and refill instructions, home access details, and a backup contact. Walk through one complete feeding-and-cleaning routine together, and make clear who will step in if a visit is missed.

FAQs
When should my sitter refill my cat’s wet food feeder during my trip?
Schedule refills around your cat’s usual meals and the portions already loaded: each used bowl should be cleaned and reloaded before its next scheduled meal. Arrange at least twice-daily care visits, with more frequent visits potentially needed for very young or old cats and cats with certain health conditions. Allow time for eating and prompt cleanup when planning each visit.
Does my sitter need to replace every portion at each visit?
An unused portion scheduled for a later meal can stay in place if the planned storage follows the food maker’s handling instructions. The sitter should promptly refrigerate or discard served leftovers, wash and dry the used bowl and serving utensils, and load a fresh measured portion according to the meal plan.
How does feeding two cats change the refill schedule for the Meowant MW-PF06?
Opening both bowls together for two cats covers one feeding occasion, so plan the next refill around their next meal. Each bowl opens once per day, and the sitter needs time to remove leftovers promptly and wash and dry the bowls before reloading.
